The focus of this day program is on connecting and empowering adults with acquired brain injuries (ABI) in a supportive, social environment. Just as our centre's name implies, the Opportunity Centre is about creating opportunities for everyone.
Whether your needs include socializing and connecting with other adults or developing specific cognitive and physical skills enabling you to live more independently, the Opportunity Centre's programs will assist you on your journey of growth. The Opportunity Centre incorporates recreation and leisure activities into its programs. A warm lunch is offered daily, thanks to a membership with the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. Attendant services are available if you require additional assistance with personal care.
The Opportunity Centre is fully accessible and located along main Grand River Transit bus routes on Westheights and Driftwood in Kitchener. Once you are registered, you can join any or all of the activities.
Offered 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm - Monday through Friday
Typically, clients in the Beginnings program have needs that prevent them from participating in Opportunity Centre programs. Beginnings offers more structure and a quiet environment, with a smaller number of clients in the program.
Beginnings gives you an opportunity to socialize, build friendships, relearn skills and develop new ones. Beginnings has an accessible setting where attendant services, behavioural facilitators, and life skills staff are available on a higher staff ratio than at the Opportunity Centre programs.
This program provides access to an Outreach Worker (Community Facilitator) who will work with the individual to attain their goals. The aim of this program is to provide immediate, brief support to individuals with an ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) within the community. This support differs from the Mainstream Outreach Program such that the individual is not assigned to nor followed by an Outreach Worker for ongoing support– this support is intended for short-term goal completion.
This program is run consistently every Tuesday through the Day Program located at 450 Westheights Drive in Kitchener from 10:00am until 3:00pm.
The program can be accessed in-person or virtually.

We are very pleased to announce that the Opportunity Centre (OC side) will return to pre-pandemic operations effective Monday May 1st, 2023. The OC clients will be able to attend the program on a drop-in basis once again.
Beginnings clients will continue to come on their scheduled days, but we will increase the number of clients that can attend per day as of Monday April 3rd, 2023.
As we increase the number of participants at the day program, we will continue to complete a rapid antigen test upon arrival and require masks to be worn in common areas.
