Traverse Independence is fortunate to have a specialized brain injury clinical team. This team, led by the intensive case coordinator Leah Swann, includes consulting psychiatrists, Dr. Sujay Patel and Dr. Alexandra Douglas, and occupational therapist Leta Stegne.
Dr. Patel participates in a collaborative and integrated indirect case consultation process alongside the occupational and behavioural facilitator, primary care including family health teams and hospitals along with mental health, addictions and other community supports. The benefits of indirect case consultation include bilateral education between sectors and a variety of perspectives on the case including that of the front-line staff.
Psychiatric assessments with psychiatrist Dr. Douglas are available on a limited basis to Traverse Independence clients who have a diagnosis of an acquired brain injury. Please contact Leah Swann to learn more about this resource.
Leta Stegne provides occupational therapy assessments, support and consultation to the Intensive Case Coordination program. Her expertise in acquired brain injury and functional skills of independent living are a valuable addition to our team. Leta can provide support in areas such as cognitive, physical, and perceptual skills that affect a person’s ability to perform self-care activities and participate in community living, work, and leisure. She can provide support and assessment for integration to return to learn, school, work, and play.
