National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day or Orange Shirt Day

Yesterday, staff and clients at the Opportunity Centre came together to honour and reflect on the experiences of Indigenous peoples affected by residential schools.
The day began with a meaningful land acknowledgment delivered by a Mike, an Ojibway man from the Saugeen Clan, setting a respectful tone for the day’s events.
This was followed by a learning session that explored the history and significance of Orange Shirt Day. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of residential schools and the importance of truth and reconciliation.

We are pleased to share that during yesterday’s Joint Equity Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee meeting, it was agreed that this initiative of education and acknowledgement will be expanded across the organization next year. This will provide more opportunities to connect, discuss, and reflect together.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped create a space for learning and respect.🧡
