Mask Fit Testing Matters and Why We Do It

At Traverse, safety is our top priority. For employees who wear tight-fitting respirators, mask fit testing is essential to ensure proper protection against airborne hazards. A respirator that doesn’t fit correctly can allow harmful particles to bypass the seal, putting the wearer at risk.
What is Mask Fit Testing?
It verifies that a respirator forms a secure seal on the wearer’s face. This process checks for leaks and confirms that the mask provides the intended level of protection. There are two main types of testing:
• Qualitative: Uses taste or smell indicators to detect leaks.
• Quantitative: Uses specialized equipment to measure leakage precisely.
Why Do We Conduct It?
• Compliance: It’s required by occupational health and safety regulations.
• Protection: Ensures employees are safeguarded against dust, chemicals, and other airborne hazards.
• Confidence: Gives our team peace of mind knowing their equipment works as intended.
Regular fit testing is not just a rule, it’s a commitment to your health and safety.
