June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month
We’d like to highlight that June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness month.
Prevalence: About 1 in 5 Canadians experiences a mental health issue annually. By age 40, 50% have or have had a mental illness.
Depression & Anxiety: Major depression affects 5.4% of Canadians, while 4.6% live with anxiety disorders.
Suicide: Men account for nearly 75% of the 4,000 suicide deaths in Canada each year.
According to the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation’s 2025 study:
-Young Men (19–29): 88.9% report moderate-to-high stress.
-Racialized Men: 79.7% report moderate-to-high stress.
-2SLGBTQI+ Men: 70.6% report moderate-to-high stress.
-Men with lower income (<$60k): 74.5% report moderate-to-high stress.
These figures underscore the intersection of mental health with age, race, income, and sexual orientation.
Several organizations are working to break the silence and support men’s mental health:
HeadsUpGuys Offers resources tailored to men dealing with depression.
CAMH Offers a wide range of mental health services.
Talk Suicide Canada: Provides 24/7 crisis support via 9-8-8.
Peer Support Programs: These are increasingly recognized as effective, helping men feel less isolated and more empowered to seek help.
