Fergus Opportunity Centre is closing May 31st, 2025
On June 19th, 2024, we opened an extended branch of our Opportunity Centre Day Program in Fergus. With the increased awareness of need for recreational and rehabilitative programs in rural areas, especially for folks with brain injuries, we wanted to allow the community in Wellington County easier access to our programs.
Since that day, we have seen many different faces at the program, some frequent flyers, and some simply wanting to connect for a day. We have been able to refer individuals to our other programs, give them freshly cooked lunches (and usually some snacks to take with them), inspire creativity with various arts and crafts activities, and genuinely connect with many folks throughout the duration of this program.
Our clients have been able to create positive relationships, with other participants of the program, with staff members, and with the folks at Community Living, who we have worked closely with since opening day. Our team has witnessed individuals coming out of their shell, developing stronger social skills, and fostering cooperative relationships, all while partaking in a very competitive round of Crazy Eights.
With the building being listed for sale by Community Living the option to renew our lease is limited so unfortunately, the Fergus branch of the Day Program will officially be closing on May 31st, 2025, with the last program day occurring on May 30th. The team behind the program is sad to see it end, but we have been so grateful to be able to bring this opportunity to Wellington County, even if only for a short time.
